The concept of farm house had evolved in Delhi in the 60s. At that time, farm houses meant simple houses in the field, and they were very few in numbers then unlike now. So, there were no fixed guidelines for them at that time. However, with the passage of time, property market became a new profitable source of investment in the 70s and 80s. From the late 80s to 2000 farm houses started becoming a trend in the southern part of Delhi and even many started considering them as their first home.

This caused a significant jump in land price from lakhs to crores. High profile people were hugely attracted to the concept of farmhouses, and many even started giving more priority to them instead of the ordinary ones. Initially, land owners were allowed to construct their home over 100 square meters on 2.5 acres plot. This did not satisfy their desires of building luxurious farm houses. So, the built up area was constantly increasing. At present, it is 5000 to 30000 sq. ft. However, the DDA has come up with a new 1 acre plots policy.
